SMALL TALK
NIC AUBURY

The poet’s life would be far sweeter
were there money in the metre.

Light verse has a new hero for the 21st century. Part grumpy dad, part pedant, part armchair philosopher, Nic Aubury has expertly trained the English language to do his bidding; watch it heel, roll over and walk on its hind legs all for your amusement.

Small Talk is packed full of pithy one-liners, sharp observations and impeccable metre concerning the inanities of modernity and the petty grievances of everyday life. Within these pages lie joy, frivolity and just a touch of sadness.

Nic Aubury was born in Watford in 1974, and spent most of the next eighteen years trying to get girls to laugh at his jokes. He went to Oxford to read Classics, and met a girl whose jokes made him laugh. They got married, and they now live in the provinces with their three sons. Nic has worked in advertising and teaching. He started writing poems by mistake.

“Utterly delightful. These poems are perfectly formed and hilariously true.” Sophie Hannah
